How to Find the Best Greek Cooking Recipes
Since I grew up learning all the Greek cooking recipes my family had to offer, it took me a while to realize that my family cooks only a subset of what the cuisine has to offer. So I had to find the best places to go in order to find the best Greek foods possible.
What makes learning how to cook in a particular cuisine so fascinating is the sheer variety in how different families do things and what they choose to eat. My family particularly loves spanakopita, avgolemono, pastitsou, baklava.
When I got married and had my own kitchen, I realized that I love dolmades - stuffed grape leaves. Since my family made that only rarely, I needed to start from scratch and learn the ropes myself. So, I turned to a cookbook that the ladies society at my church created. I adapted it to my own tastes and my family says that I make the best stuffed grape leaves they’ve ever had. Other foods I learned outside my family’s kitchen were tzatziki, souvlaki, gyros, other Greek desserts and various Greek soups and salads.
In the future, I will be sharing all of my favorite Greek recipes. Most of the creations are committed to memory and I seldom measure. I know that something is perfect by using my senses. But I understand that I got to this point after several years of watching and cooking. I started out using the measurements when I was first learning and understand how important it is. Next time I make a particular dish, I’ll be sure to document what I am doing so that I can share it with all of you.
Meanwhile, I would love it if you requested recipes for your favorite Greek foods. It will give me a chance to hit the kitchen and make something.
